This California couple wanted a chic & contemporary wedding design that represented their fun-loving personal style.
“Nuance Occasions is amazing! Jolyn helped us tremendously through our whole planning process and we were more than happy with all of her help and ideas. She went above and beyond any expectations that we had and truly created the wedding of our dreams! She is an angel sent down from the wedding gods who saved us from all of the wedding planning stress! A year ago, just thinking about planning our wedding from California, when it was going to take place in Edmonton, was a nightmare!! Thanks to Jolyn and the online wedding workroom, our planning process was alot of fun and stress free, like it should be! Thank you so much for absolutely everything!!!” – Mackenzie & Joshua
It was fitting that the California couple brought their weather with them – so on Mackenzie & Joshua’s wedding day, the temperatures reached +35degrees!
Nearly all the planning happened with Mackenzie & Joshua back home in California, however, Mackenzie’s mother was instrumental in helping finalize details and we made sure Mackenzie was had her input thanks to the Nuance Occasions online workroom.

The afternoon ceremony was at the Fairmont Hotel MacDonald in the Drawing Room. The room was transformed with fabric and the use of ambient lights. Calla lilies artfully placed in cylinder vases by La Piazza Dasee graced the edges of the custom printed aisle runner. The ferns and greenery accents lovingly reminded the couple of the lush greenery back home – bringing a little California to Edmonton thanks to the ceremony designs of Exquisite Creations.

This fun loving group took full advantage of the hot sun and steamy Hotel MacDonald venue as they began their photographs around the property. Then, with the guidance of Sam of Sam Ng Photography – ventured into some back alleys and interesting spots in downtown Edmonton.

Guests were treated to an a hip and trendy reception when they arrived at the Union Bank Inn (one of my top 3 favorite venues in Edmonton!) The deep moss green linens were invigorated by the gold satin chair covers, with pops of purple and orange throughout the room. It was so enjoyable planning the decor with a couple willing to make some bold color statements – and it paid off – it really is my most favorite room that we’ve done so far at the Union Bank Inn…it was stunning…and the guests thought so too!

The florals were a definite centerpiece to the wedding reception room – lush green on the iron pillars, and a creative tropical design became the focal point on the mantal. Jeanine at La Piazza Dasee most definitely understood Mackenzie’s vision for California chic! Add the hip stationery of Pink Polka Design – which worked so perfectly with the unique color scheme and sophistication Mackenzie & Joshua wanted.

Mackenzie and Joshua knew they wanted a simple cake, but wanted a unique design to it. Tamara at Simply Elegant was up to task in creating a tiered cake with different height tiers – it was a truly ‘simply elegant’ creation. As a tribute to the region where Joshua was from, a decadent avocado and tomatoe salad was specially created by the culinary team at the Union Bank Inn – all our california guests & avocado ranchers were asking for the recipe it was so delectable!!! And what dinner would be complete without some California wines!

Mackenzie & Joshua – it was so much fun bringing your vision to life! I hope you truly enjoyed your second reception in California and look forward to getting to see you both again at another one of our Nuance Occasions’ weddings next year (hint hint Mallory)!
