Lauren & Rey :: Glittering New Year

Lauren & Rey chose to ring in the new year in style – a night full of glitz, dance offs and savory food!

Lauren & Rey are such a fun loving couple – and it was great that their sense of humor prevailed, because their wedding day reached temperatures of -35 degrees below zero – it was chilly!!

The couple started their day with a late afternoon ceremony at the UofA Convocation Hall – with pointsettias across the stage front, a deep burgundy aisle runner and candles flickering along the stage edge – as the lights dimmed, it was such a romantic and warm space for a wedding ceremony. Accompanied by the Amati Trio, and officiated by marriage commissioner Marcia Loder – this fun couple sealed their love for one another.

As the couple enjoyed indoor photos at the Arts Building with photographer Kim Carmichael of Urban Concept Photo, plans were underway to complete the transformation of their elegant winter wonderland wedding reception at the Trans Alta Art Barns.

Guests were greated by a cocktail reception in the foyer, featuring sliders and veal and shrimp from Century Grill catering team.

Guests selected their escort card from the round feature table and awaited their opportunity to enter the reception room, with no idea what was awaiting them.

The couple envisioned a romantic atmosphere complete with dim lighting, romantic down lighting and the sparkle of crystals. Using the theatre blacks of the venue as a base for the design, we used a simple black table linen with a sparkling silver table runners from Elegant Touches. With a couple modifications, the crystal trees came to life with the addition of crystals, feathers and orchid strings thanks to the endless work of the team of Laurel & James at La Piazza Dasee.

   

Rhinestone buckles added some glitter to the black napkins and charger plates, while the serene winter tree scape adorned the reception stationery designed by Pink Polka Design.

And for added glitz and sparkle – three specially designed silver chandeliers were suspended from the ceiling – giving the reception a true hollywood wedding feel. Guests were in awe at how the room came together.

True to Lauren & Rey’s fun personalities, in order to get the couples to kiss, danceoffs ensued based on music selections of the DJs at Revolution DJ Entertainment. It was fun seeing all the family and friends of the couple take these dance offs so seriously LOL.

The speeches were endearing – there was so much love between these two families…even between brothers and sisters…it was a true celebration of a great couple, supported by great families.

As the new year rang close, the noisemakers, hats and tiaras broke out and streamers flew as the new year arrived. Although it may have been so very cold outside, you couldn’t help but feel embraced by the warmth of love in the room at that moment.

And when you’ve been dancing up a storm all night, pizza makes the perfect late night snack…as evidenced by how quickly our 24 delivered pizzas were devoured!

Lauren & Rey – you both take great joy in both the big and small things in life and I hope you experience many more goofy pictures, have many more dance offs, and continue to play practical jokes through your years ahead!
