This was answer I gave to a client last week, when they asked what made my marriage such a great one…and I responded ‘I drink his flat pop’ LOL!
This one line really does sum up my relationship with my fabulous husband. We are opposites in so many ways – but our opposites always seem to perfectly compliment each other – they really do. I can’t stand fizzy pop, my husband won’t drink pop that’s gone the least bit flat…so he drinks the top half of a bottle, I drink the last half – it’s a perfect relationship that way.
Working in the wedding industry, I get to meet a lot of different couples and see lots of different ways they compliment each. With all the stress of wedding planning, sometimes as the wedding planner I have to tell my couples to take a break from planning their wedding – even if just for one weekend!
So while planning your wedding, try to make time to do ‘non-wedding’ stuff together – make date nights together, go out with friends, with the rule of no talking about the wedding! Throughout your wedding plans, remember ‘the why’ – why you love your partner – because when the going gets rough (like dealing with 50 people who didn’t reply or the caterer is missing in action) you may need to remind yourself about the why factor – sometimes the stress can get the best of everyone.
It’s easy to get caught up in the wedding event, and forget about the reason for the wedding – so take time for yourselves, and plan some non-wedding time, and focus on what makes you a great couple. I know I caught myself off guard with the answer I gave to my client (I really blurted it out without much thought LOL) but looking back, it really does sum up my husband and I.
With each and every wedding I plan, I hope all my couples are as fortunate as I am to have a loving and lasting relationship, like I’ve been lucky to have with 10 years of marriage! Don’t let the your wedding become your only relationship, let your relationship become the focus of the wedding!
