This May wedding day started with a ceremony at the family Korean Presbyterian Church in southern Edmonton – and although the day was a little drizzly, the warmth of family and friends filled the church.

The aisle was decorated with calla lily and chrysanthemum florals from Flowers in the Park and a custom printed aisle runner.

And even though it was raining, Tiffanie and Daniel with their photographer Sam Ng braved the weather for some incredible portraits – I love umbrella shots!

As the festivities moved towards the reception at the Marriott at River Cree, 400+ guests were greeted with the ceremony aisle runner for signing. This runner was turned into a fabulous keepsake for the couple.

The seating chart was created using a printable template from DIY Party Designs – once the names were in the chart, the file was uploaded to Staples for printing and placed in a frame for the wedding.

The dramatic teal lighting was emphasized on the backdrop by QSD Rentals. The teal and black linens from Elegant Touches were augmented with the rhinestone buckle accents. Wanting a more tailored and chic design, centerpieces were created with custom imported black feather balls.

When making decisions about the wedding cake, the couple was torn on two designs – and decided ultimately to find a way to incorporate the two together for a dramatic statement piece.

Tiffanie and Daniel wanted a real ‘wow’ element to their reception and we decided the best way to do that was bring in an aerial artist – performing to a Cirque du Soleil number from the show Ka.

The day may be been drizzly but it was sizzling inside! With a hooked up party thanks to DJ Qwake, this party went into the wee hours. To continue the festivities, a Korean Tea Ceremony was held with immediate family the next day. Dan & Tiffanie – I hope your wedding day resonates in your mind as an incredible party for years to come!

Nancy & Michael lived in Ontario, so the majority of their planning was done from afar. The other detail you need to know about Nancy & Michael, is that they are both researchers in the chicken field. Needless to say, there were more chicken jokes at this wedding than we’ve ever thought possible!

It was important to Nancy & Michael that there was an intimate atmosphere and smooth flow to the evening. A 5pm ceremony in the upper loft of the Rainbow Room of the Edmonton Petroleum Club provided soft natural light.

It was important for Nancy & Michael that we find a marriage commissioner willing to work with their friend Joanne, so that their friend could have a large role in their wedding ceremony. Marriage commissioner Sheila Smyth worked wonderfully with my couple and their friend to create an intimate and meaningful ceremony.

As the Leduc Room of the Edmonton Petroleum has such natural ambiance, we simply added some plum linens from Elegant Touches – embellished with alternating brass candelabras and floral arrangements as table centerpieces.

The wedding cake and grooms cake (a pile of chicken feed with little chicks on it) were created by the talented Tamara of Simply Elegant Cakes. Floral bouquets and centerpieces were dramatic with the deep crimson red and plum hues. The florals were created by Karen’s team at Awesome Blossom.

In order to get the loving couple to kiss, guests had to provide some hula hoop inspiration & chuckles first…

A fun piece of personalized flair for Nancy & Michael, was their crimson dyed egg placecards, with each guests name written in gold. To provide a stable base for the placecards, we used brass napkin rings placed on their sides.

Along with dessert, creme liquors were served as shots to add to coffee. The servers & team at the Edmonton Petroleum are always such a joy to work with.

Hazel & Barry exchanged their vows in one of the smaller conference rooms. The decor was kept simple & yet welcoming. Marriage commissioner Marcia Loder conducted a beautiful wedding ceremony.

As guests entered the reception, they were greeted with the monogram door decals designed by Pink Polka Design.

To accompany their Parisian Garden decor scheme, Hazel & Barry selected their favorite french wine and used the bottles as a guest book. Guests each signed a bottle, and the bottles will then be opened on their first anniversary. A wonderfully fun keepsake for the couple of their France inspired wedding.

Guests found their names on the custom ribbon placecard board that I had created which beautifully showcased the placecards. Placecards designed by Pink Polka Design were color coded to the match the entree choice each guest had selected.

Hazel & Barry knew early on that they didn’t want to receive gifts, but would rather collect donations to both the Canadian Cancer Society & Kidney Foundation of Canada in memory of 8 special family members and friends who had been affected by those illnesses…including their dog Harvey…

Inside the ballroom, we had all four walls draped with a combination of white sheer & silver satin fabrics by our draping company QSD events. A custom french blue table linen had been brought in by Elegant Touches specifically for this wedding.

The fabric draped walls softened the look of the room and kept everything within the color scheme of the decor. The addition of ambient lighting throughout the room enhanced the feeling of romance!

Assorted crystal wine glasses reclaimed from thrift stores were placed along the edge of the head table and filled within single roses.

Reclaimed frames were all painted silver and embellished with crystal arrangements. The frames were hung throughout the room on the fabric walls as inspired by the decadent french museums and their fabulous artwork.

When Hazel & Barry were discussing the perfect wedding cake to display, we knew we wanted something that would ‘pop’ against the white fabric walls. I worked closely with Deb of Deliciously Different Cakes to design a parisian cake that would boost various shades of french blue and antique inspired scrollwork moulds.

My favorite feature is that we designed the cake to ‘float’ on a bed of white orchids and dusty miller filler…dramatically changing the look of the traditional cake table!

The room was full of lushious rose blooms from La Piazza Dasee and the brides bouquet was an absolutely stunning mix of roses, orchids, calla lilies and delphiniums.

The newlyweds and their guests partied hard into the night thanks to the tunes of DJ Rob at Nuance Sound.

The couple started their day with a late afternoon ceremony at the UofA Convocation Hall – with pointsettias across the stage front, a deep burgundy aisle runner and candles flickering along the stage edge – as the lights dimmed, it was such a romantic and warm space for a wedding ceremony. Accompanied by the Amati Trio, and officiated by marriage commissioner Marcia Loder – this fun couple sealed their love for one another.

As the couple enjoyed indoor photos at the Arts Building with photographer Kim Carmichael of Urban Concept Photo, plans were underway to complete the transformation of their elegant winter wonderland wedding reception at the Trans Alta Art Barns.

Guests were greated by a cocktail reception in the foyer, featuring sliders and veal and shrimp from Century Grill catering team.

Guests selected their escort card from the round feature table and awaited their opportunity to enter the reception room, with no idea what was awaiting them.

The couple envisioned a romantic atmosphere complete with dim lighting, romantic down lighting and the sparkle of crystals. Using the theatre blacks of the venue as a base for the design, we used a simple black table linen with a sparkling silver table runners from Elegant Touches. With a couple modifications, the crystal trees came to life with the addition of crystals, feathers and orchid strings thanks to the endless work of the team of Laurel & James at La Piazza Dasee.

   

Rhinestone buckles added some glitter to the black napkins and charger plates, while the serene winter tree scape adorned the reception stationery designed by Pink Polka Design.

And for added glitz and sparkle – three specially designed silver chandeliers were suspended from the ceiling – giving the reception a true hollywood wedding feel. Guests were in awe at how the room came together.

True to Lauren & Rey’s fun personalities, in order to get the couples to kiss, danceoffs ensued based on music selections of the DJs at Revolution DJ Entertainment. It was fun seeing all the family and friends of the couple take these dance offs so seriously LOL.

The speeches were endearing – there was so much love between these two families…even between brothers and sisters…it was a true celebration of a great couple, supported by great families.

As the new year rang close, the noisemakers, hats and tiaras broke out and streamers flew as the new year arrived. Although it may have been so very cold outside, you couldn’t help but feel embraced by the warmth of love in the room at that moment.

And when you’ve been dancing up a storm all night, pizza makes the perfect late night snack…as evidenced by how quickly our 24 delivered pizzas were devoured!

Lauren & Rey – you both take great joy in both the big and small things in life and I hope you experience many more goofy pictures, have many more dance offs, and continue to play practical jokes through your years ahead! I’m sure your humor will help you overcome any hurdles you encounter. Our team wishes you all the very best!
